1. Metal Zipper, Nylon Zipper or Plastic Zipper...
When people buy zipper, the first thing is to confirm the what kind of zipper you want. There are so many kinds of Zippers, but group by material, here are mainly three kinds: metal zipper, nylon zipper and plastic zipper.
1.1 Metal Zipper
For metal zipper, material brass is better than aluminum. Aluminum teeth is cheap, but rough and easy to be broken. Of course, it is simple to distinguish brass and aluminum teeth by the weight, brass is heavier than aluminum. What`s more, aluminum is so easy to bending, so it can not be a good zipper choice if the zipper teeth is always out of shape.
1.2 Nylon Zipper
There are 2 kinds of nylon zipper, W/O cord nylon zipper and W/ cord nylon zipper.
W/O cord nylon zipper: The fastener element is formed into a spiral shape by a monofilament around the center line, and a fastener stringer

1.3 Plastic Zipper
For plastic zipper, to check the color and cleanliness of zipper teeth is the most simple way to determine if it is a good zipper.
2. Type and Length
Type and length are the basic specifications of zipper, cause no one want a zipper with wrong size. The zipper type means the width of zipper teeth, usually there are 3# 4# 5# 8# 10# regular type of zipper. Below are the detailed specifications for zipper type:

About the zipper length, the length of open end zipper is from the top stopper to the insert/box, and the length of close end zipper is from the top stopper to the bottom end. Almost of zipper will remain 1.5 inches length as a extra Knife edge.
3. The flatness of the zipper
